Appointments/Home Visits

Telephone (01382) 826724 between 8am - 6pm, Monday to Friday

All consultations are by appointment only.

Our receptionists are trained to help you as efficiently as possible; their task is often complicated by doctors and nurses having variable timetables. Please be patient and help them to help you by giving them sufficient information to process your request and allocate the appropriate resources to meet your needs.

Our Practice endeavours to provide patient access to an appropriate Health Care Professional within 2 working days. To enable the practice to meet patient demand we are currently reviewing our appointment templates to ensure that clinical appointments either face to face in the surgery or telephone consultations are being utilised to maximise patient benefit. Patients can book a doctor's appointment up to 7 days in advance, if clinically appropriate.

Our appointment lines are normally busier between 8.00am and 9.00am and you may experience some delay in contacting the surgery if you phone during this time. Please don't worry if you can't get through straight away as we normally have appointments available throughout the day. If for any reason we cannot offer you an appointment that day we will ask you to call back the next morning.

However, if you feel you need to be seen urgently, the receptionist will request your details and our Triage Nurse will call you back to discuss your problem. She will ensure that you are seen by a doctor if your need is urgent. You will be seen the same day although you may not be able to specify which doctor. These appointments may have to be added to a fully booked surgery and therefore you must expect to be kept waiting.

We will endeavour whenever possible to allocate the appointment with the doctor of your choice, however, this may not always be possible due to patient demand, holidays, etc.

Emergencies will always be fitted in as required, though you may be asked to see a nurse in the first instance.

HOME VISITS

Home visits should only be requested for patients who are seriously ill or housebound. It is important to bear in mind that most medical problems are dealt with more effectively in the clinical setting of a well equipped surgery or hospital. If you require a home visit please telephone before 10.00am. The receptionist will ask for some information about symptoms. This is fully confidential and enables the doctors to determine the priority and timing of visits.

OUT OF HOURS EMERGENCIES NIGHTS/WEEKENDS

Should you require urgent medical advice when the surgery is closed please contact NHS 24 tel. no. 08454 24 24 24 and your symptoms will be assessed by a nurse. If the nurse decides that you require contact with a doctor the details of your consultation will be sent to our local Out of Hours service. However, in cases of emergency please dial 999.

If you would like further information about NHS 24, please visit their website at www.nhs24.com

Should you have any complaints about services provided during the out of hours period please contact Primary Care Services, NHS Tayside, Ashludie Hospital, Monifieth, DD5 4HQ. Tel no. 01382 423000.

CANCELLATIONS

Appointments are valuable to our surgery, especially for patients who need to be seen urgently, and patients are expected to attend their appointments at the arranged time. You have a responsibility to attend pre arranged appointments and failure to attend means that the appointment and the doctor's time is wasted.

Should you be unable to keep your appointment please inform us as soon as possible so that we can offer the appointment to another patient.
